Prologue
(2022)
Materials: Prop (2020), kentia palms, corrugated steel sheets, gravel, stone, paint.
Dimensions: Variable.
Like the museum and garden environments of the eighteenth century, Prologue sets the scene for a leisurely reflection on public space, culture and planting. The work is informed by the tropical modernist architecture of Lina Bo Bardi in Salvador de Bahia. Prologue evokes the stone gardens of Kyoto and is built on an ongoing fascination with sandboxes. The stone garden surrounds the work Prop and imported (now ubiquitous) plants, which once also peppered the halls of museums.
