I’m coming into this conversation with the request to swap a nose with you, but what with? Swapping for me is part of a position about artists’ work, about getting each other’s work. I was thinking we should swap ceramics since we ended up making some more or less at the same time, which was odd since neither of us have a ceramic practice. It is most de”nitely not my medium.

It’s not my medium either, but it is interesting. You came to the International Clay Workshop I organized in my home village years ago. We spent “ve days with all those really clever people thinking about what to do with clay; we came up with a million ideas … and in the end I just tinned it.
Clay is a great material, but I don’t know what to do with it. It makes you try to shape it into something, it’s so weird not trying with it. With screen printing you just put some color on the screen and pull it through. But clay forces you to want something speci”c, and if you do not want anything … it’s confusing. I enjoyed the glazing …. But I have no opinion about whether I like the ceramic noses. I “nd them funny, but mostly for their name, Vasen mit Nasen.
